The melody is from Concierto de Aranjuez (1940) by Joaquín Rodrigo (1901-1999), which originally is a concerto for a classical guitar and an orchestra. writes Anna-Kaisa Uusipaikka. This page is entirely devoted to Joaquin Rodrigo and the concerto. There it says: Concierto de Aranjuez takes its title from the site of the royal palaces of Aranjuez, a place favoured by the Bourbons. The music (or the two outer movements at least) is not only about the time he [Rodrigo] spent there with his wife on their honeymoon, but also life in the courts in the 18th and 19th centuries. Anna-Kaisa added that she warmly recommends this "classical version" of the song, as it kind of gives more dimensions to Sarah Brightman's interpretation. Carlos also send me an English translation, meant to have an idea what the song is all about, with thanks to James Galbraith for a correction. In Aranjuez with your love Aranjuez, a place of dreams and love Where a rumour of crystal fountains in the garden seems to whisper to the roses Aranjuez, today the dry leaves without colour Which are swept by the wind Are just reminders of the romance we once started And that we've forsaken without reason Maybe this love is hidden in one sunset In the breeze or in a flower Waiting for your return Aranjuez, today the dry leaves without colour Which are swept by the wind Are just reminders of the romance we once started And that we've forsaken without reason In Aranjuez, my love You and I
