I often mix correct with incorrect facts to enhance the story. Some might recognize the great mini-series 'Band of Brothers' in this story. It's reflective, somewhat, of it. I've taken liberties with Tony Edwards and his wartime experiences, most notably, changing where he fought in the war. Substituting Europe for Italy.
